The Geneva Motor Show is one of the grandest event in the automobile industry. Big brands and manufacturers showcase their utmost creations and future concepts. The 2019 Geneva Motor Show, a two day media event starts on 5th March 2019. Followed up by 10 days for public exposure. With 2019 motor show, there’s no exception. Following are the list of brands and what can be expected to be showcased by them for the 2019 Geneva Show.
Folks at Alfa Romeo has only stated showcasing a new model at the Geneva motor show. While there’s been no confirmation, the speculations suggest a small crossover which will sit beneath the Stelvio in the company’s lineup. Considering the fact how people are warming up towards crossover, it is suffice to say Alfa is betting on the same bandwagon.
The British car manufacturer are keeping things tight lipped just like a MI6 agent. The brand teased the world with couple of images of what can be expected to be showcased at the motor show. Rumours suggest that the makers will showcase their first ever SUV, tagged as Aston Martin DBX along with an electric variant with an all electric, zero emission SUV, which follows the brand’s Lagonda All Terrain tag. The brand may also unveil it new hypercar which is said to sit below Valkyrie, and will be more daily driver friendly vehicle.
Audi will be showcase its entire electric range for 2019. This electric future will consists of plug in hybrids variants of A6, A7, A8 and Q5. The maker is also said to showcase its concept for Q4 e-tron which will be brand’s crossover coupe variant. The production ready however will see light of the day somewhere in late 2020 or early 2021. Apart from electric lineup, Audi will also showcase the 2019 variant of Audi TT RS. Powering the RS is a 2.5 litre I5, which puts out 394 hp of power and 481 Nm of torque.
Premium manufacturer, Bentley will showcase its fastest SUV, the Bentley Bentayga Speed. The makers claim the uber luxury SUV produces 626 hp of power and staggering 900 Nm of torque which helps the car hit 100 kph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 306 kph. Bentley included what it says are the largest production brakes fitted to a production vehicle.
BMW will finally give full ‘M’ treatment to its smaller crossovers, and the same will be showcased in brand’s X3 M and X4 M variants. Both trims will sport a 3.0 litre turbocharged I6 which produces 473 hp of power and 600 Nm of torque. That said, both can also be opted for a more powerful tuned setup which will produce 503 hp of power. The company will also showcase its flagship sedan which will get Alpina treatment. The 2020 BMW Alpina B7 will be powered by a 4.4 litre, twin turbo V8 putting out 600 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. The sedan being the pinnacle of flagship will be loaded with new age technology, creature comforts and premium surroundings. The company will also set stage for its 2020 BMW 7 Series which was unveiled back in January 2019.
The Italian stallion will showcase the replacement of its 488 GTB in the upcoming meteor show. The Ferrari F8 Tributo, will be company’s form of paying homage to first eight cylinder Berlinetta, the 1975 308 GTB.
Majority may not be acquainted with this long dormant Spanish manufacturer, owing to its troubled history. The brand is set to unveil two premium offerings by two different manufacturers this year. Strange ? Both the manufacturers are in a tug to claim the right to revive the long dead marquee. This was between the founder’s great grand son and another company with shares will showcase two iterations of same brand and under same badge. The heciracial’s $1.7 million electric coupe is said to produce 1,006 hp of power and is laced every bit with carbon fibre. Looks like the Carmen could be quite a retro-futuristic showstopper.
Over from the land’s end side, the maker will showcase one of the most anticipated prototype of an all electric car. Badged as Honda Urban EV Concept, the maker’s claim the showcased concept is a production ready variant and will retain 98 % of the design. Titled as the best design implementation in a small electric segment, the Urban EV concept has a lot riding on it. However, the biggest downfall is that the car will only surface in European markets when launched. The brand is also speculated to show the 2020 iteration for its SUV.
Hyundai will showcase the N Line trim. The N Line will add the aesthetics of the car without the mechanical component of the N variants offered by the maker. Rumours report that the latest to get this treatment will be the Tucson SUV, which will receive its own sporty kit. The aggressive bodywork will be showcased at the motor show.
The baddie in town, Jaguar will finally showcase the rich awaited refreshed avatar of XE. The 2020 Jaguar XE will not just get aesthetics upgrades on the exterior or interior but will also feature an updated mechanical setup. The maker have confirmed with the new XE, Jaguar will launch the brand’s new face for the future’s lineup.
Looks like the German giant will have one of the biggest platforms in the 2019 Geneva motor show. Starting with GLE, Mercedes will finally give an AMG treatment to its GLE class. The Mercedes AMG GLE53 will be powered by a 3 litre turbo I6 which will generate 429 hp of power and 521 Nm of torque. This coupled with a 48-volt battery will make the new AMG GLE a mild hybrid setup. The company will also be showcasing its EQV Concept, which is an all electric vehicle setup based on the V Class platform. The company will unveil the 2020 Mercedes GLC class which is said to get a mid cycle update. Finally, the brand will showcase two flagship class products. The Mercedes Benz SL Class Grand Edition which will be top most offering on the brand’s SL450 and the SL550 variants. And finally, alongside the premium convertible, the company will introduce its showstopper, the pinnacle badge, the Mercedes Benz AMGS65 Final Edition. It’s not a car, it’s a statement.
The startup borrows its name from former VW chairman Ferdinand Piëch, but is based on an entire new brand. The Swiss company shared a teaser of an all electric car which will be showcased at the motor show and is badged as Mark Zero.
Mahindra owned Pininfarina is set to debut the all electric hypercar, the Battista, at the 2019 motor show. The all wheel drive two seater electric is said to produce 1,900 hp of power and 2,300 Nm of torque, and a 0-100kph time of under 2 seconds. Should Tesla be worried ? Only time will tell.
The 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet will make its first appearance in Geneva. Powered by a turbocharged flat six, will churn 443 hp of power and 529 Nm of torque. The company will also showcase a drop top variant at the show.
Skoda will showcase its smallest production SUV. Deemed as Vision X concept earlier, the Skoda Kamiq will finally see light of day at the motor show. Based on VW’s T-Cross platform, the Kamiq carriers over various design trades from the brand’s lineup. There’s no words if the Kamiq will make it to India, but if it does, Skoda will definitely see a bump in sales. Alongside the Kamiq, the brand will also showcase Skoda Vision iV Concept which draws its inspiration from Vision E concept that debuted in 2017.
The only Indian badged brand that will be showcased at the 2019 motor show will be Tata. The brand promises to showcase four types of vehicles out of which the manufacturers claim one to be near production ready. Starting with, the Tata Altroz which is based on the 45X hatchback concept. The makers claim close to 85% of retainability in design and will compete against the likes of premium hatchback offerings in India. Next up in line are the concepts which the makers are boating and generating a lot go hype around. The Tata Vision Hornbill concept is brand’s micro SUV concept which is based on an entire new Alpha platform. Rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and TUV 300, the production variant is said to make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Alongside the Hornbill, Tata is said to showcase the H7X concept. Said to be the successor of the Hexa and to be launched at the second half of 2019, the Tata H7X will be Tata’s biggest event highlight. Finally, Tata will showcase its electric concept with Altro’s electric counterpart. The 45X EV, aims to display the electrification potential of products based on Tata’s Alfa architecture.
The most trusted brand is said to showcase the latest iterations of the most selling sedan in the world. The 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis will set the stage for the brand alongside its hatchback variant. The hatchback will however, be offered in two trims namely Toyota Corolla GR Sport and Toyota Corolla Trek. While the former will showcase an agile and aggressive body design, the latter focuses more on crossover aesthetics. Setting the stage as showstopper however will be the Toyota Supra GT4 Concept. With the GT4 concept, the brand is trying to break the lap records out on public road, and make sure to maintain the domination just as its able to do it at the Japan’s Super GT and America’s NASCAR series.
Making waves and possible the most anticipated car for the 2019 motor show event is from Volov’s booth. The Polestar 2 is dedicated EV from Volvo’s spun-off performance division. The Polestar 2 promises a range of over 400 kms in between charge and is said to blurt 408 hp of electric power. Tesla should definitely be worried.
The most anticipated news from VW will be the revival of its ever so popular bug. Born from the ashes of the war and curated in America, the Dune Buggy or the Beach Buggy was ever so popular in the 1960’s and the 1970’s. However, with modernity escalating hard, the company drew curtains over the bug. However, at the 2019 motor show, the brand is betting on the same sentiment and will be showcasing the VW Electric Dune Buggy Concept. Apart from the concept, the brand will also showcase the latest iteration of its SUV the 2020 VW Touareg. The latest iteration is said to be powered by a V8 engine which will do 100 kph from a standstill under 5 seconds.
