2019 Repsol Honda Team Launch marks 25 years of Repsol Honda
January 24, 2019
The 2019 MotoGP season marks a milestone of 25 years since
Spanish Oil Giant Repsol and Honda joined hands. Over these years, HRC (Honda
Racing Challenge) has achieved a mythical level at the sport. The most
successful team at the paddock carried out its 2019 Repsol Honda Team launch at
Spain. This year also happens to be the beginning of what HRC is calling ‘Dream
Team’, something that would either yield incredible greatness or will backfire
massively. But that is something that only time will tell. Right now, what is
important is the fact that the 2019 Repsol Honda Team of Marc Marquez and Jorge
Lorenzo happen to be the most successful pair of team mates in the history of
the sport. Both riders combined have a total of 12 world titles to their name.
As for the 2019 Repsol Honda Team Launch, the world expected
(without hope) that someone at Honda would have gotten bored of the livery that
has more or less remained similar since 2013 at least. However, that was not
the case to be, and we reckon Honda has missed a mark. HRC could have very well
gone ahead and brought a more retro them that celebrates the 25 years of Repsol
Honda at MotoGP. That said, they might just bring a special livery sometime
this year, but then it’s just wishful thinking at this moment in time.
However, we would like to appreciate how the event organizers
at HRC tried their best to make the same old livery launch as exciting as they
could. Inviting the legends like Mick Doohan and Alex Criville to share stage
with the reigning champ Marquez and new addition Lorenzo was a fine touch. It
was impressive to see Mick and Alex fit into their original leather after more
than 20 years.
At the center the present ‘Dream Team’ duo of Marquez and
Lorenzo unveiled the 2019 Honda RC213V. This was also the first time when we
got to see Lorenzo in the HRC race suit. But with a very recent surgery to his
Scaphoid fracture, Lorenzo wore thick cost on his left hand and making sure
that it is well taken care of.
When Asked about how the 2019 season would turn out to be for
the dream team, Marquez said that on paper we are indeed the Dream team but at
the end of the day what counts is results and victories. Regarding his shoulder
surgery, he told that the recovery process is on schedule and that this was the
most boring winter break for him ever since he could not ride a bike. Now that
he is recovery at a fast pace, he is excited to start the season.
As for HRC’s latest superstar signing, Jorge Lorenzo, like already mentioned he just had a surgery which would see him miss the Sepang MotoGP test on February 6-8, 2019. He said that he was thrilled to be a part of this team and wearing the iconic HRC leathers and colours I an incredible experience. He is confident that he would have a great testing at Qatar Test scheduled for end February and that he is give his absolute best to reciprocate the faith Honda has shown in him.
He also mentioned that it was still very early in his Honda
career to be ready to reach the full potential on the RC213V. He was also not
completely fit during the Valencia and Jerez tests but was appreciative how
good HRC was in listening to his inputs and needs. He likes how agile and fat
the RC213V is and was especially appreciative for the superfast times that HRC
takes in bringing new parts that suit him.
