Hyundai has finally resurrected the ‘family car’ badge back. First launched in the year 1998, the car cemented company’s foundations in India. The car which gave company it’s identity, Hyundai Santro. So, judging by the aforesaid statement, there’s certainly a lot ridging with the badge and given today’s market, the 2018 Hyundai Santro has a lot to live upto. So, the car that once rivalled ever so popular Daewoo Matiz, will now rival one of the most trusted brand and the most strong rival in its segment, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Tata Tiago. Let’s dive deeper with head on comparison. 


All the cars fall under similar category, however, have different approach. While the Santro is wider and has a ‘tall boy stance’, the Celerio is lengthier and has a longer wheelbase. So, where the former gets more headroom and shoulder room, the latter gets better leg room. This varied approach to the dimensions however doesn’t hinder with the boots pace, as the two car have similar boot capacity. Tata Tiago is an amalgamation of both. It resides somewhere in between the two cars and tries to pack in the benefits of two in one.

A The Santro is typical Hyundai breed. It gets a sense of familiarity which it shares with the company’s lineup. Features like a touchscreen navigation with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with reversing camera and rear AC vents sets the Hyundai quite rich in features when compared to rials. The Celerio comes with basic features and feels dated when compared to the Santro. Tiago on the other hand shares a border between the two  cars and come with its own set of features like height adjustable driver seat and power folding, outside rear view.
On safety front, all the cars share ABS, seat belt reminders, seat belt pretensioner and a rear defogger along wipe as common. Santro and Tiago also gets a reverse parking sensor which is a miss on Celerio. Santro with an exception to the top trim, offers driver side airbag as standards, whereas Celerio and Tiago offers dual airbags as standard across the range.

Celerio and Santro comes with a factory fitted CNG variant for better fuel efficiency. Hyundai in addition offers an updated 1.1 litre Epsilon engine which comes mated to a 5 speed gearbox whereas Celerio gets a litre engine and produces least power and torque figures across the rivals in its segment. The Tiago takes up a notch and offers a larger 1.2 litre petrol engine along with a diesel engine. The Celerio, earlier was offered in a diesel configuration but was later discontinued due to low demand. All cars are offered with an option of and AMT, with exception to diesel variant of Tiago. The latter of the three is most fuel efficient car on paper.
