Ducati Desmosedici GP19 Livery is Very Red, Very Awesome
January 20, 2019
With the highly anticipated 2019 MotoGP season not that far off, the time for team launches has begun. Ducati Corse has put the hype machines in an overdrive with the launch of its official Ducati Desmosedici GP19 Livery, making them the first 2019 team launch. In a fast paced event, the Ducati presentation had a few interesting insights, especially for those who like reading between the lines. The event was set up at the Phillip Morris R&D Cube in Neuchatel, Switzerland, the long running title sponsor of the Ducati Corse team. For those not in the know (that’s rather cute tough), Phillip Morris is the owner of the Marlboro brand of cigarettes.
Over the years, Ducati has been slowly moving away from the largely Red livery from most part of the last decade. Those who remember the 2007 season where Casey Stoner literally decimated the competition to clinch Ducati’s only MotoGP world Championship till date, would remember just how ‘red’ the bike was. The 2018 bike, on the other hand, was the farthest Ducati Corse has chartered from the Red that has defined it. However, it seems the marketing team at Phillip Morris International (PMI) have finally found an authentic way to bypass the anti-tobacco regulations in motorsports sponsoring. And by the looks of it, the new Ducati Desmosedici GP19 Livery does look quite impressive.
The result, as you can see below is a brand new very very red and very very striking livery defined majorly by the new name of the team. The 2019 Ducati Corse effort will be called as the – Mission Winnow Ducati Team. And if that sounds a lot like some very red and very Italian factory racing team in Formula 1, then you are right. PMI is also the title (clandestine) sponsor of the Ferrari team as well. At this moment in time if you wish to head to the dictionary to what Winnow means, then fret not, Winnow (pronounced Win-no) means separating the chaff from by using air currents. We wonder if that would have made the aerodynamics team happy at Ducati Corse.
Coming back to the new Ducati Desmosedici GP19 Livery, it is interesting to note that among the major sponsors, Audi Sports also features heavily on the bike. This should be enough to extinguish the wildfire rumours of the German brand wanting to sell off Ducati. As for the mechanicals that are underneath all that red, it is safe to assume that the bikes that were on the show were essentially the late 2018 bikes wearing the new livery. Though, there are rumours that the GP19 makes well over 300bhp, of which, there is no way of finding the truth about. But we are sure, that all that red on the new Ducati Desmosedici GP19 Livery should have added 15 percent more power in itself.
The teams are always secretive about their exact numbers. Ducati just quotes that the GP19 makes over 250bhp. Like, we don’t know that the customer sports exhaust laden Panigale V4R’s make 231bhp. However, it is safe to assume that the Bologna bullets will continue to be the most powerful bikes of the MotoGP grid in 2019. Keep an eye on that straight at Mugello this year as well, it is always fun to see Marquez’s expression about how the Ducati’s pull away from him.
