Gadkari Garnered With Innovation Award By Global NCAP

Nitin Gadkari, Head, The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Abhay Damle, Joint Secretary, The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), were garnered with the Innovation Award by the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) at its World Congress 2018 event held in Delhi. The honour was awarded to the Government of India in recognitions for the efforts and contributions made by the country over past one year to enhance vehicle safety standards and regulations. The award was handed to the Head and to the Join Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) by David Ward, President of the GNCAP and Max Mosley, former chairman of the GNCAP.
The government was applauded for introducing and adopting new front and side impact crash test norms for cars and for mandating automatic headlights and ABS on two wheelers. The appreciation also reflected with the government’s efforts to introduce new age devices and integration of technology which helps in regulation and maintaining of speed of the vehicle. The government was also commended for necessitating the mandate on fitment of speed warning devices.
In a statement released by the Global NCAP stated, “The Government of India acted decisively to implement new vehicle safety regulations that represent a highly innovative initiative for such a major emerging automobile manufacturing nation.” The GNCAP started crash testing Indian manufactured cars in 2014.
